Noteworthy: Parade association holds potluck


Members of the Festival of Lights Parade Association assembled recently for a potluck. Organizers are busy with plans for this year’s parade, scheduled Nov. 26 in downtown Los Altos.

“Our focus this year is renovating Santa’s Float,” said volunteer Nancy Schneider. “We have enough funds to provide the reindeer with new antlers. ... We are also giving Santa a new bag with toys as well as a redesigned sleigh. Next year we hope to do a more complicated project of redoing the structure of the float.”

Scouting News: Local Scouts receive awards

Troop 75’s Ali Abukhater, 17, right, and Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Nico Suppiah, 13, left, recently received Scout of the Year awards from the Pacific Skyline Council for their leadership and for being model Scouts. Abukhater plans to attend UC San Diego in the fall, and Suppiah will enter high school at Summit Denali in Sunnyvale.


Music for Minors recently hired Karen Kwan as the nonprofit organization’s director of development.

Kwan, a veteran fundraiser, is responsible for overall fundraising and communications strategies for Music for Minors, an annual recipient of the Town Crier’s Holiday Fund.

Scouting News: Scout participates in July 4 ceremonies



Jason Stone Bhalla, grandson of LoAnn Stone of Los Altos, participated in the opening ceremonies at the Del Mar Fourth of July Parade as a member of Del Mar Troop 713. Jason, a former Los Altos resident, is the son of Anil Bhalla of San Diego.
