Noteworthy: LAH resident receives UC Davis alumna award


The Cal Aggie Alumni Association at UC Davis honored Los Altos Hills resident Diane Bryant, Class of 1985, with the 2017 Outstanding Alumna Award at a Feb. 3 gala on campus.

Bryant is executive vice president of the Data Center Group at Intel Corp.

Noteworthy: Dentist's bike ride raises $12K for foundation


Menlo Park dentist Dr. Jan Gabus’ annual “Miles For Smiles” bike ride through Glacier National Park raised nearly $12,000 for the Los Altos-based Mid-Peninsula Dental Health Foundation, which provides dental care for the working poor who have no dental insurance and receive no government assistance.

Over the past nine years, Gabus’ bike rides have raised more than $104,000 for the foundation.

Scouting News: Troop 30 Scouts receive Eagle honors

Seven Boy Scouts from Troop 30 in Los Altos recently received Eagle Scout honors at a Court of Honor ceremony at Christ Episcopal Church of Los Altos, where the troop meets.

To become an Eagle Scout, Scouts must plan and execute a service project.

Scouting News: Troop 33 honors new Eagle Scouts

Troop 33 celebrated its new Eagle Scouts, from left, Ryan Biesty, Noah Herman, Matthew Mellea, Kai Jarmon and Anthony Mein.

Boy Scout Troop 33 of Los Altos conducted its Eagle Court of Honor ceremony for five new Eagle Scouts last month. The Eagle designation is the highest rank in Scouting. To earn the Eagle rank, Scouts must complete a community service project. The new Eagle Scouts:

• Ryan Biesty of Mountain View expanded the capacity of the Los Altos District’s Living Classroom to engage kindergartners in garden-based education. Over his six years in Scouting, Biesty held multiple leadership positions and continues to serve in leadership roles in the Boy Scouts’ National Honor Society.
