Scouting News: Local Scouts earn Eagle rank

Nicolas Suppiah, left, and Hunter Borlik

Boy Scout Troop 75 in Los Altos recently honored two members for earning their Eagle Scout ranks.

• Hunter Borlik, 18, is a senior at Everest Public High School in Redwood City.

He plans to study computer engineering at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo next year.

For his Eagle Scout project, Borlik installed an outdoor learning area at St. Timothy’s Preschool in Mountain View.

Over the course of nine weekends last summer, he coordinated with preschool director Janet Kolstad, organizing and constructing more than 100 hundred feet of decorative fencing, installing a vehicle access gate, relocating irrigation and planning safe pedestrian circulation.

• Nicolas Suppiah, 13, is an eighth-grader at Summit Denali in Sunnyvale.

For his Eagle project, he assisted a remote school in the western region of Gorkha, Nepal, that was devastated by the 2015 earthquake.

He built two toilets and a library furnished with books; donated a printer, scanner and three new computers for a computer lab; moved and cleaned earthquake rubble to make a play area safe for students; and collected donations of school supplies, blankets, hygiene products and first-aid kits to distribute to neighboring villages.
