Underdog Los Altos overwhelmed by top seed Westmont in CCS final

Los Altos High baseball coach Gabe Stewart described Westmont as “a beast in the playoffs” – one that the Eagles couldn’t tame in the Central Coast Section Division I final.

The top-seeded Warriors walloped Los Altos 8-1 in the May 27 title game at San Jose Municipal Stadium.

SF's late rally not enough against Mitty in softball final

Despite being down 9-0 at the start of the sixth inning of the Central Coast Section Open Division final, the St. Francis High softball team showed it wasn’t ready to give up.

The Lancers put up five runs in the sixth and loaded the bases with one away in the seventh before Mitty pitcher Savanna Smith shut them down. She retired the next two batters, preserving a 9-5 win for the Monarchs May 27 at PAL Stadium in San Jose.

Teens took top honors in singles at the 49th Mountain View Open, and several more junior players advanced to the latter stages of the three-day tennis tournament, which concluded Memorial Day at Cuesta Park.

“There were many up-and-coming young players in the tournament this year,” tournament director John Togasaki said.

Los Altos High's Carter competes in backstroke at Arena Pro Swim Series

Los Altos High swimmer Danielle Carter placed 34th in the finals of the 100-meter backstroke and 35th in the 200 back at last weekend’s Arena Pro Swim Series in Santa Clara, which featured many of the top swimmers in the world.

Carter, entering her junior year, swam the 100 back in 1 minute, 6.75 seconds. She completed the 200 back in 2:24.34. Fifty swimmers competed in each event.
