Led by halfback Cyrus Habibi-Likio, above with ball, St. Francis kicks off the playoffs Friday night by hosting Mountain View.

It’s not unprecedented for Los Altos, Mountain View and St. Francis highs to make the Central Coast Section football playoffs in the same season, but it is highly unusual.

It’s happened twice in the past 20 years – in 2010 and now this season.

Pinewood freshman Megan Chou placed third at the CCS girls golf championships.

For 18 holes at the Central Coast Section girls golf championships, Pinewood School’s Megan Chou did a good job of keeping her emotions in check. It served her well: the freshman finished her round in a five-way tie for first place with a 1-under-par 71.

“I wasn’t that nervous,” the 14-year-old said. “I was more relaxed and focused on having fun, since it was my first time there.”

Los Altos resident Diego Pedrayes has been invited to participate in a national camp run by the US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program.

Diego Pedrayes’ love for soccer has a lot to do with the love he has for his late grandfather.

“He was one of the best players in Mexico City and could have gone national, but he chose to graduate from school instead,” the Los Altos resident said. “He’s one of my inspirations to keep playing.”

The Mountain View High girls cross-country team – from left, Shannon Gould, Alex Brown, Gabrielle Joffe, Serena Myjer, Amber Fry and Audrey White – won the league finals last week.

Based on how well the local cross-country teams performed at their respective league finals last week at Crystal Springs, they must be elated that Saturday’s Central Coast Section championships will be there, too.

Placing four runners among the top 10, the Mountain View High girls captured the SCVAL El Camino Division championship Nov. 1 at Crystal Springs in Belmont. The Spartans beat runner-up Gunn by six points.
