CCS honors two St. Francis coaches

Two recipients of the Central Coast Section Spring Sports Honor Coach Awards come from St. Francis High.

Revealed last month, boys tennis coach Richard Svedeman and track and field coach Mike Saso were among the nine winners – one per sport – recognized by their colleagues.

Svedeman, a retired dentist, is in his eighth season as varsity boys tennis coach at St. Francis. A CCS press release described him as coach who “brings outstanding sportsmanship, a care and concern for each student-athlete and daily effort to the program that is unmatched.”

Saso is in his 17th season as the Lancers’ head track coach. The CCS press release called him “a coach who instills hard work,” is “extremely skilled at seeing the big picture” and “has built a culture where students know that they are a part of something bigger than themselves.”

Saso and Svedeman will be honored at the CCS championships of their respective sports.
