Los Altos High teacher honored for science education

The Santa Clara County Office of Education recently named Darren Dressen, a chemistry teacher at Los Altos High School, one of the winners of the Texas Instruments Innovations in STEM Teaching Awards.

Youth Drama For All wins grant, boosts accessibility

Youth Drama For All plans to use new technology to help young special-needs performers express themselves, leveraging a $3,000 grant from the Million Dollar Round Table Foundation to expand the organization’s resources.

While new teleprompters may aid actors who can’t memorize lines, iPads will enable performers to work with the latest version of scripts, which are updated frequently to respond to individual actors’ passions and abilities.

James Brewer of Los Altos graduated from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa with a bachelor’s degree in commerce and business administration. He made the school’s spring semester dean’s list.

County names local educators Teachers of the Year

The Santa Clara County Office of Education has named two Los Altos educators, selected by their districts, as 2017 Teachers of the Year.

Diane Wharton of the Los Altos School District and Betty Yamasaki of the Mountain View Los Altos Union High School District will be among those honored at the 48th annual Teacher Recognition Celebration Sept. 14 in Campbell.
